Jamaica: Who is Earl V. Campbell? Jamaican Author and Jamaican Poet. by Earl V. Campbell 0 votes vote The highly respected Englishman, Neville Ste

The highly respected Englishman, Neville Stewart, Minister of Religion, while pastoring in the Bahamas, described Earl V. Campbell as “a conjuror with the words, always interesting, often amusing, sometimes deeply moving in his performance.” Some people described Campbell’s writings as descriptive, vivid and easy to read. The Jamaican poet has written on several subjects: Historic events, politicians, educators, love, sports stars, dignitaries, royalties, tragedies; but his true character is a nature poet. Also, that is where Campbell’s heart is.

It should be no surprise that readers heap praises on poems like: Princess Diana; Hope Botanical Gardens, Ardastra Gardens; Song of the Rio Minho River; Clarendon; The Chapelton Road (May Pen) Woods; Montego Bay, Negril: Jamaica; The Dunn’s River Fall; and An Apology to Westmoreland. Campbell had an appetite for writing on several categories, so he enjoyed them all. Earl’s emotion and dynamic description appear explosively in his tragic poems. Ask Campbell which is the best poem he has ever written. “It is the poem that has received the least publicity, Elegy: President John F. Kennedy,is his answer.

Books written by this author include: Mother: A Sweet Scented Rose; These All Say: “America is a Beautiful Country”; Mother, Why is Your Mouth so Long; Culture is More Important Than You Think; and Kennedy’s Thoughts After He Was Shot.
